Patna: Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, inspected the construction work of the new building of Kalidas Rangalaya, a prominent cultural venue located at the south-eastern end of Gandhi Maidan in Patna. The theatre, also known as the ‘Bihar Art Theatre’, is undergoing major renovation and expansion.
During the visit, Kumar reviewed the progress of key facilities, including the auditorium, green rooms, the main stage, and lighting and sound systems. Officials briefed him on the status of the project and the remaining work to be completed. The chief minister directed them to ensure that construction is finished quickly without compromising on quality.

CM said the main objective of the upgrade is to provide artists with modern and comfortable facilities. He stressed the importance of advanced technical systems so that performers and audiences do not face inconvenience. The state government, he said, is committed to promoting theatre and cultural activities, with Kalidas Rangalaya playing a central role at both state and national levels.
The chief minister noted that the old building had become outdated, making renovation necessary. He instructed officials to carry out beautification work carefully and to remove old and dilapidated sections of the complex. He also emphasised the need for plantation within the premises to create a pleasant and green environment for visitors.

Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, along with senior officials from the chief minister’s office, the art and culture department and the Patna district administration, were present during the inspection.
