Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday laid the foundation stones for two major urban drainage development schemes in Patna, aimed at addressing the city’s longstanding waterlogging issues and improving road infrastructure.
The Rs 181 crore Kurji Nala (also known as Rajiv Nagar Nala) project and the Rs 91.27 crore Anandpuri Nala project were officially launched by the Chief Minister at separate locations — near Rajiv Nagar on Ashiana-Digha Road and at the Rajapur bridge, respectively. During the ceremony, Kumar unveiled commemorative plaques and later conducted an inspection of the sites.
“These schemes were announced following my review of Patna district’s development work during the Pragati Yatra on 21 February,” Kumar said. “I had visited both sites and heard the grievances of local residents. I had then directed that proper drainage and road facilities be ensured.”
Both drainage projects will include the construction of paved drains with two-lane roads built atop them. The CM instructed officials to ensure swift execution of the works, noting their significance in improving traffic flow and preventing urban flooding.
Once completed, officials say the projects will not only mitigate waterlogging but also contribute to a cleaner and more organised city landscape.
Rajiv Nagar Nala spans 4.26 km from Ashiana-Digha Road to the Kurji drainage pumping station. The Anandpuri Nala stretches 4 km from Baba Chowk to the Rajapur Pul pumping station near Atal Path and A.N. College.
