Patna: The Department of Orthopaedics at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, has organized a two-day Postgraduate Teaching Programme on August 2 and 3. The event attended by postgraduate students in Orthopaedics from across Bihar and neighboring states, is focusing on enhancing their clinical and communication skills.
The program is specifically designed to teach students the critical skills of patient examination and effective communication, which are essential for becoming a proficient doctor and a compassionate clinician.
The teaching programme was inaugurated by the Director of IGIMS, Prof. (Dr.) Bindey Kumar. He was joined by Prof. (Dr.) Om Kumar, Dean, and Prof. (Dr.) Manish Mandal, Medical Superintendent. The ceremony, which included a traditional lamp-lighting, was attended by a distinguished panel of invited faculty, including Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Sural from New Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar from Chandigarh, Prof. (Dr.) Govind Kumar from Ranchi, and Dr. Rajnand Kumar from Gorakhpur. Prof. (Dr.) Om Kumar and Dr. Arvind Kumar from Patna were also present, along with faculty from various medical colleges within the state.
A significant portion of the programme was dedicated to discussing complex patient cases, providing students with valuable real-world learning. Cases included patients with elbow deformities resulting from falls and infections, a six-year-old child with a leg deformity caused by a brain infection, a forearm deformity due to childhood trauma, a hand deformity from a forearm nerve injury, and non-union of leg bones from a road traffic accident. The discussions covered the impact of such deformities and the various operative and non-operative treatment methods available. The program also addressed the diagnosis and treatment of cystic lesions in bones.
The event, held in the IGIMS auditorium, provided a great benefit to numerous patients from different parts of the state whose cases were discussed.
The program concluded with the organizers, Chairman Prof. (Dr.) Santosh Kumar and Prof. (Dr.) Ritesh Runu, along with Secretary Dr. Inderjit Kumar, expressing their gratitude to all participants and faculty members. The Orthopaedics department’s faculty, including Prof. (Dr.) Manish Kumar, Dr. Wasim Ahmed, Dr. Nishant Kashyap, Dr. Abhijeet Subhash, Dr. Kumar Chandan, and Dr. Vidya Sagar, were all actively involved in the programme.
