Patna: In a historic move for the state’s burgeoning sports scene, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today unveiled the logo and mascot for the ‘Asia Rugby (Under-20) Championship-2025.’ The championship, a first for Bihar, is set to take place on August 9 and 10 at the State Sports Academy-cum-Bihar Sports University in Rajgir.
“It is a matter of great happiness that Bihar is organizing the ‘Asia Rugby (Under-20) Championship-2025’ for the first time,” said the Chief Minister at the unveiling ceremony in Patna. He highlighted the rapid progress of Bihar’s rugby players at the national level, stating that the tournament would not only elevate the state’s sporting culture but also “set a new record in the rugby world of Asia.”
A Symbol of Bihar’s Heritage and Sporting Ambition

The mascot, named ‘Ashok’ in honor of Emperor Ashoka, is a rabbit chosen for its speed, agility, and alertness—qualities essential in rugby. Adorned with a helmet, shield, and armor, Ashok represents the discipline, courage, and determination of the athletes. The mascot’s design is a clear message that “Bihar will now lead not only in history but also in the future of sports.”
The official logo, with its blend of blue, green, and earthy tones, is a visual tribute to Bihar’s historical heritage, cultural diversity, and vibrant nature. Its modern design and deep symbolism represent a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
Rajgir: A New Hub for International Sports

The two-day tournament will bring together nine countries, including India, China, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Nepal. Eight men’s and eight women’s teams will participate, with all teams staying in Rajgir to experience Bihar’s hospitality and culture. A grand opening ceremony is scheduled for August 8th at the Kabaddi Hall of the Rajgir Sports Complex.
The selection of Rajgir as the host city underscores its emergence as a premier sports destination. The State Sports Academy-cum-Bihar Sports University, a world-class facility, recently hosted events for the Khelo India Youth Games 2025. The state government has approved a budget of Rs 4.08 crore for the championship.
The event holds special significance for Bihar, as rugby is one of the state’s 14 priority sports. Bihar’s rugby teams have recently showcased impressive performances, including the women’s team winning a silver medal at the National Games and school teams securing championships in various categories. This championship is expected to provide a global platform for the state’s emerging players and inspire a new generation of rugby enthusiasts.
Praise from Rugby India

During the event, Rugby India President Rahul Bose lauded Bihar’s recent performance in the sport and praised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership. “Under your leadership, Bihar has made a lot of progress in the field of sports,” he said, acknowledging the improved infrastructure for sports development in the state.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with several senior officials from the state government and the Sports Department.
