Nitish Kumar Unveils Development Push for Raghopur Following Six-Lane Ganga Bridge Inauguration

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a new phase of development for the Raghopur Diara region following the recent inauguration of the six-lane Kacchi Dargah–Bidupur Ganga bridge, connecting Patna directly to Raghopur. The state government has formed a committee to draft a comprehensive development roadmap for the area, which has long been considered a political stronghold of the Yadav family.
In a tweet, Kumar highlighted the potential transformative impact of the bridge, which was inaugurated on June 23. “With the inauguration of this bridge, smooth traffic, socio-economic growth, tourism, and new avenues for investment in Raghopur Diara will be strengthened,” he wrote. “This will create employment opportunities for the youth and open doors to holistic regional development.”
The newly formed committee will examine the feasibility of further infrastructural expansion in the region, including road construction and other essential services. The CM added that the body will study the geography and needs of Raghopur Diara and its eastern and western belts before drafting an action plan.
Kumar said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring equitable development across Bihar. “Our effort is to ensure the fruits of development and justice reach every section and region of the state without discrimination,” he stated.
The bridge—measuring 32 metres in width and costing an estimated Rs 5,000 crore—has significantly reduced travel time between Raghopur and Patna, with the journey now taking just five minutes. The project is expected to benefit lakhs of residents across 20 panchayats in Raghopur, a region that had been awaiting this connection for years.
Tejashwi Yadav, the local MLA and leader of the opposition in the state assembly, may feel the political implications of the development push, as Raghopur has been a traditional bastion of his family. Both Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi have previously represented the constituency.
