Patna: NTPC has taken a significant step towards strengthening India’s power infrastructure with the foundation stone laying of a 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its Barh plant in Bihar. The project is designed to enhance grid reliability, facilitate renewable energy integration and ensure uninterrupted power supply during periods of high electricity demand.
The foundation stone was laid by Ravindra Kumar, Director (Operations), NTPC Limited, in the presence of L. K. Behera, Regional Executive Director (ER-I), C. Satya Rama Krishna, Executive Director, NTPC Barh, and Mahesh Govind Kende, Managing Director, NGSL.
Project to improve grid stability
The BESS project will store surplus electricity generated during low-demand periods and feed it back into the grid whenever required. This will improve energy efficiency, enhance grid stability and support the seamless integration of renewable energy sources into the national power network.
The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in balancing electricity demand and supply while contributing to India’s clean energy goals.
Review of ongoing projects
Following the foundation stone ceremony, Director (Operations) visited the Stage-I Control Room and chaired a review meeting at the Administrative Building. During the meeting, he assessed the progress of the Battery Energy Storage System project along with other ongoing development works at NTPC Barh.
Focus on sustainability
As part of the visit, Ravindra Kumar planted a sapling at Ashok Bhawan, reaffirming NTPC’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The programme was also attended by Harekrushna Jena, GM (O&M), Ajeet Kumar Singh, GM (Maintenance & Administration), Arun Kumar Singh, GM (Operation & Fuel Management), Alok Kumar Tripathi, Whole Time Director, NGSL, and other senior officials from NTPC and NGSL.
