Buxar: Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, a soldier from Buxar district in Bihar, has been posthumously awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his exceptional bravery during Operation Sindoor. Singh, a resident of Narbatpur village under Chausa Nagar Panchayat, sacrificed his life while defending the country’s borders. The honour was announced and presented at the 78th Army Day ceremony held in Jaipur, where the Indian Army paid tribute to soldiers who showed extraordinary courage in difficult and dangerous conditions.
The medal was presented by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to the families of martyrs. When Singh’s name was called, his wife, Sujata Devi, received the medal on his behalf. She became emotional as the army described her husband’s bravery and sacrifice. The moment was deeply moving for everyone present, highlighting the personal cost borne by families of soldiers who lay down their lives for the nation.
According to the army, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh was posted with the 237 Field Workshop Company. On the night of 9 May 2025, his unit came under heavy shelling from the Pakistani side during Operation Sindoor. Amid the explosions and confusion, Singh noticed six enemy drones approaching his sentry post. Without wasting time, he alerted his fellow soldiers and stepped out into the open to fire at the drones with his rifle, trying to stop a possible attack on the camp.
During this action, an enemy shell exploded near him, leaving him seriously wounded. Despite his injuries, Singh continued to pass on clear and timely information about the drones to his comrades. He kept doing his duty until his final breath, helping save the lives of several soldiers. For this selfless courage and commitment, the Indian Army awarded him the Sena Medal (Gallantry) after his death. In Buxar, people have expressed pride and respect for the martyr, remembering him as a brave son of the soil who stood firm till the very end.
