Gaya: A total of 281 cadets from across India were commissioned into the Indian army on Saturday following the 28th passing out parade held at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Gaya.
The newly commissioned officers included 253 men and 28 women from the Short Service Commission – Technical Entry (Men and Women) 64th course.
During the ceremony, the cadets took the oath of service at the pipping ceremony, where stars were pinned onto their shoulders in the presence of their parents, family members, senior army officers and invited guests.
The parade was reviewed by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, general officer commanding-in-chief of the Southern Command, who congratulated the cadets on completing their training and joining the officer ranks of the Indian army.
Addressing the newly commissioned officers, Seth urged them to embrace innovation, continue upgrading their knowledge and remain adaptable in the face of evolving battlefield challenges while upholding the core values and traditions of the army.
Emphasising the responsibilities that come with the uniform, he told the officers that leadership is earned through character and integrity.
“The uniform represents not merely authority, but an enduring covenant of trust, responsibility and honour,” he said.
Lt Gen Seth also presented awards to cadets who excelled during the training period. Academy Under Officer Kuldeep received the coveted Sword of Honour for being adjudged the best all-round cadet and also won the silver medal for securing second position in the overall order of merit.
Battalion Under Officer Aswin Kirupai was awarded the gold medal for standing first in the order of merit, while Battalion Cadet Adjutant Charan GV received the bronze medal for securing third position.
Gurez Company was awarded the Chief of Army Staff banner for emerging as the overall champion company during the training cycle.
Following the ceremony, the reviewing officer, accompanied by senior officers and academy dignitaries, paid tribute to soldiers who laid down their lives in service to the nation.
In keeping with the traditions of the armed forces, the newly commissioned officers also participated in a wreath-laying ceremony honouring fallen soldiers.
