Patna: An FIR has been registered against Purnia MP Pappu Yadav at Shastri Nagar Police Station following controversial remarks he allegedly made about women in politics.
The complaint was lodged by Reena Kumari Chaudhary, state secretary of the Janata Dal (United). In her complaint, she stated that she was deeply hurt by statements made by the MP during press conferences held on April 20 and 21.
According to the FIR, videos of the MP’s remarks have gone viral on social media, in which he is allegedly heard making objectionable comments about women entering politics. The statements have triggered sharp reactions, with critics calling them derogatory and offensive.
The complainant has alleged that the remarks are an attack on the dignity, self-respect and social standing of women involved in public life, and could discourage their participation in politics.
The issue has sparked protests in various quarters. The Bihar State Commission for Women has issued a notice seeking clarification from the MP.
Meanwhile, some groups have also demanded action from the Lok Sabha, including calls for the cancellation of his parliamentary membership.
