New Delhi/Patna: The cost of obtaining a passport in India will increase from July 1 after the central government approved revised application fees for all major passport categories.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has notified the new fee structure by amending the Passport Rules, 1980, under the provisions of the Passports Act, 1967. The revised charges will apply to all passport applications submitted on or after July 1, 2026.
Standard And Tatkaal Fees Increased
Under the revised schedule, the fee for a standard 36-page passport has been increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500.
Applicants opting for the Tatkaal service for the same passport booklet will now pay Rs 5,000 instead of the earlier Rs 3,500.
The government has also revised charges for 60-page passports, which are commonly preferred by frequent travellers.
The fee for a standard 60-page passport has increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500, while the Tatkaal fee has been raised from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000.
Rules For Minor Applicants
The amended rules also clarify that minors aged between 15 and 18 years who choose to apply under the adult passport category will be required to pay the same fees applicable to adult applicants.
The revised fee structure has been notified under Section 24 of the Passports Act, 1967.
Discount For Children And Senior Citizens
Alongside the fee revision, the government has introduced a 10% concession on fresh passport applications submitted by children up to eight years of age and senior citizens above 60.
However, the concession will apply only to new passport applications and will not be available for passport re-issuance or renewal.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the revised fee structure is intended to support improvements in passport services and streamline the application process.
People planning to apply for a passport, or whose applications are submitted on or after 1 July, will be required to pay the revised charges.
