Patna: Although the southwest monsoon has entered Bihar, residents will have to wait at least another 48 hours for widespread rainfall across the state. While several districts in north Bihar have started receiving showers, many parts of south Bihar continue to experience intense heat and humidity.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 18 districts on Friday, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with speeds of up to 60 kmph. The department has advised residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
Early Friday morning, light to moderate rainfall was reported from parts of Sitamarhi, Bagaha, Samastipur, Siwan, Gopalganj, and Patna, providing temporary relief from the scorching heat. However, districts including Gaya and Nalanda are expected to continue experiencing hot and humid conditions for the next two days.
According to the IMD, monsoon activity is likely to intensify across Bihar from June 27 onward. As rainfall becomes more widespread, daytime temperatures are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
Heatwave Persists Across Several Districts
Over the past 24 hours, temperatures remained above 40 degrees Celsius in eight districts, including Patna. Kaimur recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 43 degrees Celsius, followed by Buxar and Aurangabad at 41.8 degrees Celsius each. Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius.
Heatwave conditions prevailed in several districts, making weather conditions uncomfortable due to high humidity. Meanwhile, rainfall was recorded in three districts, including Khagaria.
Rainfall Forecast for the Coming Days
June 26: Heavy rainfall is likely in East and West Champaran, while Patna and nearby areas may witness thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy showers.
June 27: Heavy rainfall is expected in Nawada and West Champaran. However, districts such as Rohtas, Bhojpur, and Buxar may continue to experience high temperatures.
June 28: The monsoon is expected to become fully active across Bihar, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall to most parts of the state.
June 29: Cloudy skies are likely over Patna and south Bihar, with light to moderate rainfall expected. Some districts in north Bihar may receive heavy showers.
June 30: Heavy rainfall is forecast in Araria, Kishanganj, and Supaul, while Patna is expected to receive light rain.
Patna Under Orange Alert
Patna is likely to witness a significant change in weather on Friday. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the district, predicting partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms and rain in several areas. Some localities may experience moderate to heavy rainfall during the day.
South-Central and Eastern Bihar Likely to Receive More Rain
Meteorologists said moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, combined with favourable local weather conditions, are expected to trigger increased rainfall activity across many parts of Bihar. South-central and eastern districts are particularly likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and rain.
Monsoon Yet to Become Fully Active Across Bihar
Weather experts said that although the monsoon has reached most parts of Bihar, its activity is not yet uniform across all districts. The monsoon system is expected to strengthen further over the next few days, leading to widespread rainfall across the state.
Scientists also noted that continuous moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal and a favourable position of the monsoon trough will enhance rainfall activity across Bihar. Good rainfall is expected across most districts during the last week of June and the beginning of July.
