Patna: Thirty-one emergency call boxes installed at major intersections in Patna will be connected to Dial 112, creating a direct channel for people to seek police assistance during emergencies.
Under the new arrangement, a person facing an emergency, accident or security threat will be able to press the help button on a call box. The alert will reach the Dial 112 police control room, following which the nearest police team can be directed to the location.
One Button To Alert Police
The system is designed to make it easier for people to seek immediate police assistance without having to make a separate telephone call.
Once the ‘Help’ button is pressed, the emergency call box will connect with the Dial 112 system and notify the police control room. The nearest available police vehicle or team can then be sent to the location.
The arrangement is expected to provide an additional channel for reporting emergencies in busy parts of the city.
Gandhi Maidan, Dak Bungalow And Patna Junction Covered
The call boxes are installed at several major and busy locations across Patna, including Gandhi Maidan, Dak Bungalow Chauraha and Patna Junction.
Other emergency call boxes located at crowded and sensitive points in the capital are also being prepared for integration with Dial 112.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening access to police assistance in locations that witness heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement.
System Expected By End Of September
The new system is expected to become operational by the end of September.
Once connected, people using the call boxes will not need to separately dial the emergency number. Pressing the help button will transmit the alert to the police control room, enabling the response to be coordinated from there.
Focus On Faster Police Response
The integration of emergency call boxes with Dial 112 is intended to strengthen rapid police response and public safety in Patna.
The system could prove useful during road accidents, security incidents and other emergencies where immediate assistance is required.
The initiative is also expected to support wider efforts related to women’s safety and traffic management by creating an additional emergency communication network at key locations across the city.
