Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will install 7,500 additional street lights across the city before the upcoming festivals to improve public lighting, convenience and safety.
Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena has directed officials to install 100 new street lights in each of the city’s 75 wards before the festive season.
The initiative aims to improve illumination on major roads, internal lanes and other public spaces, making movement easier for residents during the festive period.
Locations to Be Selected With Ward Councillors’ Inputs
The locations for installing the new street lights have been identified based on suggestions from the respective ward councillors and an internal survey conducted by the municipal corporation.
Priority has been given to areas where existing lighting arrangements are inadequate and additional illumination is required.
The plan covers not only major roads but also neighbourhood lanes and other public places where better lighting can improve accessibility and visibility.
26 Teams Deployed to Repair Faulty Street Lights
Alongside the installation of new lights, PMC is continuing repair and maintenance work on the existing street-light network.
The civic body has deployed 26 teams, each comprising three members, to identify faulty lights and restore them to working condition.
The teams are addressing problems involving defective switches, wiring and other technical faults. Lights that can be repaired are being restored, while those beyond repair are being replaced with new units.
The exercise is also intended to help the corporation respond more quickly to complaints from residents and maintain the existing lighting infrastructure.
Residents Can Register Street-Light Complaints
Residents facing problems with street lights can register complaints through the Patna Municipal Corporation control room.
The civic body has provided the following channels for lodging complaints free of charge:
- Toll-free helpline: 155304
- WhatsApp chatbot: 9264447449
PMC said the installation of additional lights and the repair of existing ones are part of its efforts to strengthen public lighting and facilitate safer, more convenient movement across Patna during the festive season.
