PATNA – In a significant development, the Patna airport police have arrested Dheeraj Kumar, the accused husband in the case of his wife’s murder, which occurred one and a half years ago. The arrest was made near his residence in Murli Chak late on Monday night.
Investigations revealed a disturbing motive behind the crime—the husband suspected his wife, Khushi, of being romantically involved with his friend. To identify and apprehend the accused, the police had to resort to forensic, narco, and DNA tests.
What began as a kidnapping case on February 6, 2022, took a dark turn when Dheeraj reported his wife missing to the airport police. The case transitioned from a mere disappearance to a murder investigation when Khushi’s father accused Dheeraj of not only torturing and killing his daughter but also disposing of her body.
The police initially probed the young man whom Dheeraj suspected of being Khushi’s lover. However, the lover denied any involvement in her disappearance.
As the investigation progressed, suspicions shifted towards Dheeraj. It was revealed that six days after Khushi’s disappearance, he had filed a missing person report at the police station. Additionally, he had sent his mother and three-year-old child to a relative’s house days before Khushi was reported missing.
Local witnesses informed the police that Dheeraj was seen driving on the day of the incident. Further questioning did not yield satisfactory answers.
Both the suspected lover and Dheeraj underwent narco tests, revealing crucial information. However, the evidence was not sufficient for an arrest.
A breakthrough came during a meticulous search of Dheeraj’s house. Bloodstains were discovered in one of the rooms, prompting the collection of samples by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). The FSL confirmed the blood’s presence.
To establish a definitive link, DNA testing was conducted on the bloodstains, matching them with Khushi’s parents. The result conclusively identified the blood as Khushi’s, leading the police to the irrefutable conclusion that she was murdered within the house.
With the evidence from FSL, narco tests, and DNA tests, the police arrested Dheeraj Kumar, bringing closure to a long-standing investigation into the tragic case.
