Patna: Healthcare services at AIIMS Patna were disrupted after resident doctors launched an indefinite strike, alleging assault and intimidation by Shivhar MLA Chetan Anand. The protest follows a late-night confrontation on Wednesday at the hospital’s trauma centre, where doctors claim the legislator, his wife Dr Ayushi Singh, and their armed guards forcibly entered the premises, attacked security personnel, and threatened resident doctors.
The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) submitted a letter to the hospital’s medical superintendent detailing the incident and announcing the strike. According to the doctors, the MLA and his entourage entered the hospital at around 11pm and allegedly brandished weapons, leading to panic among staff. The doctors are demanding that an FIR be filed against Chetan Anand, his wife, and their guards, and have warned of an escalation, including the suspension of emergency services, if their demands are not met.
Despite the severity of the allegations, no FIR has been registered against the MLA so far. The RDA has also criticised the AIIMS administration for failing to provide adequate security to its staff, claiming that the atmosphere in the hospital has become one of fear and uncertainty.
In response, Chetan Anand—son of controversial former MP Anand Mohan and JDU MP Lovely Anand—filed a counter-complaint at Phulwari police station on Thursday. He alleged that AIIMS staff physically assaulted him and unlawfully detained him for over 30 minutes.
Sources suggest that the altercation began when the MLA visited the hospital with his wife to meet a patient, reportedly a family friend named Ankit Sharma. The AIIMS administration has denied any wrongdoing by its staff.
