Patna: Former MLA and Janata Dal (United) candidate from Mokama, Anant Singh, was produced in the MP-MLA Court in Patna on Sunday, where he was remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody. Singh’s arrest follows his alleged involvement in the October 30 murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav.
Patna Police arrested Singh late Saturday night from his residence in Barh, with over 150 officers deployed in the operation. The arrest was confirmed by Patna SSP Kartikeya K. Sharma.
Speaking at a press briefing, Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said the decision to arrest Singh was based on preliminary evidence and the victim’s family’s FIR, which named Singh as an accused. “There are indications that Anant Singh’s vehicle passed the scene of the incident. The exact location of his vehicle at the time is under investigation,” the DGP said.
The postmortem findings revealed that the bullet wound on Yadav’s lower leg was not fatal. The cause of death was severe compression of the chest and lungs, consistent with being run over by a vehicle. Videos recovered from the scene show a clash between supporters of both groups, followed by stone pelting and chaos as vehicles attempted to move through the area.

A CID team led by a DIG has been constituted to investigate the case. The DGP said over 80 arrests have been made and that the incident does not appear premeditated, though all angles are being probed.
He added that additional police forces have been deployed in Mokama to maintain peace and that security has been provided to Dularchand’s family and witnesses.
