Patna: A major road linking Patna and Ara will remain closed to all vehicles until July 15, 2026, after district authorities approved an extended traffic ban to allow the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to carry out construction work.
The closure applies to the stretch between Shivala Chowk and Kanhauli, where highway work is scheduled to begin on December 18, 2025. The order was issued by the Danapur sub-divisional magistrate, who said the decision was taken to ensure safety and speed up construction.
Officials said limited vehicular movement would be permitted during designated school and college hours, given the presence of several educational institutions along the route. Vehicles will be allowed to operate between 7:30 am and 8:30 am, and again from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The administration stated that these timings could be revised if necessary.
To maintain connectivity between Ara and Patna, the district administration has announced multiple diversion routes. These include Ara–Bihta Chowk–Maner–Danapur Cantonment–Patna, as well as Ara–Bihta Chowk–Maner–Sherpur–Chhitnawan–Usri Bazaar–Shivala–Patna. Separate diversion routes have also been identified for smaller vehicles.
Authorities have appealed to commuters to follow the notified diversions and adhere to traffic regulations. Officials said public cooperation would be crucial to completing the project on time and ensuring improved road infrastructure in the future.
