Patna: One person was killed and three others injured in a high-speed road accident in Patna in the early hours of Monday after an SUV collided with a pickup truck on Atal Path, close to the Gandhi Maidan Traffic Police Station.
The crash occurred around 3am near Hartali Mod, police said. Emergency responders from Dial 112 rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. One of the victims remains in a critical condition and was later taken home by family members, officials added.
According to preliminary accounts, a speeding Scorpio struck a pickup truck that had stopped on the bridge. The impact was severe, leaving both vehicles badly damaged. The front of the SUV was crushed, while goods being transported in the pickup were strewn across the roadway, briefly disrupting traffic.
The pickup driver, identified as Ramsevak, 50, sustained injuries. He told police he had been travelling from Chhapra with animal feed to a flour mill in Shivpuri Chitkohra when his vehicle developed a flat tyre. “I had parked on the bridge when the Scorpio came from behind and hit us hard,” he said.
Police said the SUV bore a political flag and carried a VIP-style registration number (BR JT 0101). The vehicle’s registration records list the owner as Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Kanu Lal Road in Mithapur, and indicate it was recently purchased. The identities of the other injured occupants are yet to be confirmed.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the corridor and assessing factors including speed, visibility and the position of the stationary vehicle at the time of the collision. Further details are awaited.
