Patna: A serious road accident unfolded on Sunday afternoon around 3:30 PM on Atal Path in Patna when a speeding Ertiga car collided violently with a police officer’s Toyota Innova. The crash took place near Digha Kiran Automobiles under the jurisdiction of Patliputra Police Station, turning a busy stretch of road into a scene of confusion and panic. According to early reports, both vehicles were travelling from Digha towards the R-Block area when the collision occurred.
The impact began when the Ertiga, allegedly moving at high speed, hit the Innova from behind. The force of the crash caused the Innova to lose control and veer sharply, with the driver attempting to brake while the vehicle scraped against a roadside railing. In the chaos, both vehicles ended up colliding again in a more severe impact, with airbags deploying in each car. Witnesses described a moment of sudden silence followed by panic as the crash unfolded in multiple stages.
Inside the Ertiga were three people, including a young woman and two young men. All three sustained injuries in the crash but fled the scene immediately afterwards, leaving the damaged vehicle behind. Reports suggest the young woman suffered a chest injury and later left the area on a ride-hailing bike service towards Indrapuri. Bystanders noted that a political party flag was also attached to the Ertiga, adding another layer of curiosity to the incident.
The Innova carried a police officer, a commando, and a driver, all of whom suffered minor injuries. Despite the violent impact, they were able to exit the vehicle with help from local residents who rushed to their aid. Emergency response teams from both Gandhi Maidan Traffic Police Station and Patliputra Police Station soon arrived at the scene, securing the area and transporting both damaged vehicles for investigation.
Authorities have since seized both the Ertiga and the Innova as part of their inquiry into the cause of the crash. Officials are now working to trace the occupants who fled the scene, while also examining whether speeding, negligence, or other factors played a role in the multi-stage collision that brought traffic on Atal Path to a brief halt.
