Patna: A businessman from Patna, has died in Vietnam while undergoing medical treatment, leaving his body stranded abroad amid visa-related complications and prompting urgent appeals from his family to the Indian government for assistance in repatriation.
Binda Singh, a resident of Vigrahpur in Patna, had travelled to Vietnam on March 6, 2026 as part of a 90-member business delegation organised by a private company. He boarded his flight from Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport and was among around 25 participants from Patna involved in the tour, which included commercial engagements and was fully arranged by the organisers, including travel and accommodation.
Singh, who was involved in the electronics trade in the Chandni Chowk, suffered a heart attack in Vietnam shortly before the scheduled return journey. He was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to another facility in a different city after initial treatment. According to family members, he showed signs of recovery at one point, including being taken off a ventilator and moved to a general ward where he was able to speak with companions.
However, the process of returning him to India stalled due to visa-related technical issues linked to the city where he was receiving treatment. Family members say the required documentation for that location was not part of the original travel itinerary. Singh’s condition subsequently worsened, and he died on April 4.
The family says that since his death, his body has remained in Vietnam for several days as authorities there have not cleared its repatriation. Two relatives who had travelled to assist him — his grandson and his elder son’s brother-in-law — are also reportedly stranded.
Back in Patna, relatives say they are in deep distress as they await his return. Singh’s son, Rajesh Kumar, said the family had approached both Indian authorities and the tour organisers but had not received adequate support. “We have presented our case, but nothing appears to be going smoothly,” he said, adding that the company was now “washing its hands of the situation”.
Singh’s wife, Malti Devi, has appealed directly to the government for intervention. “My husband is gone; at least his body should be returned,” she said. She also requested assistance for the safe return of the stranded family members.
The family has also raised concerns over delays in administrative clearance. Singh’s granddaughter, Amisha, said repeated appeals had been made to Indian and Vietnamese authorities, including requests for intervention from the external affairs ministry. “Had the visa been granted on time, he would still be alive,” she said.
The family is now awaiting urgent diplomatic and logistical assistance to bring Singh’s body and the stranded relatives back to India.
