Patna: The investigation into the audacious killing of Chandan Mishra inside Patna’s Paras Hospital has uncovered chilling new details, as police identify Tausif, alias Badshah, as a key figure in the crime — one who sought notoriety over monetary gain.
Chandan Mishra, a known criminal figure, was shot dead by five assailants who stormed the hospital premises, sending shockwaves through the state capital. CCTV footage from the scene shows Tausif leading the group, hands casually tucked into his pockets and his face uncovered — a stark contrast to the masked shooters who followed.
According to police sources, Tausif’s unmasked appearance was no oversight. “He wanted to send a message,” said a senior investigating officer. “This wasn’t about money for him. It was about making a name, spreading fear.”
So far, ten individuals have been arrested in connection with the killing, including five shooters and two women. The plot is said to have originated at the home of Nishu Khan, the man alleged to have accepted a contract to eliminate Mishra. Khan reportedly coordinated the hit with Sheru, another criminal currently lodged in jail.
Tausif, investigators say, was not just a foot soldier but actively led the mission, motivated by ambition to rise swiftly in Patna’s criminal underworld. His goal: to kill a feared gangster in broad daylight and use the act to build a reputation that could help him exert influence over local businesses through extortion.
Police believe the plan was finalised two days before the attack. In scenes described as “straight out of a crime thriller,” the shooters entered the hospital and carried out the killing with clinical precision. Yet it was Tausif’s calculated bravado — his calm demeanour and decision to forgo a mask — that has left a lasting impression on both investigators and the public.
