Patna : The Patna Municipal Corporation has started preparations for Chhath Puja 2026 in Patna City, with work planned at 53 Ganga ghats and the construction of five artificial ponds to facilitate devotees offering arghya to the Sun God.
Workers have begun spreading soil over muddy stretches along the riverbank at Adarsh Ghat and other locations under the corporation’s Azimabad circle. The work is intended to make the riverfront more suitable for devotees during the festival.
The falling water level of the Ganga has exposed wider, flatter stretches of riverbank at several locations, making preparations for Chhath comparatively easier, according to the report.
27 Ghats To Be Prepared Under Patna City Circle
Ashutosh Kumar, executive officer of the Patna City municipal circle, said 27 small and large ghats between Hiranand Ghat and Didarganj would be prepared for Chhath Puja.
Work in the area is expected to begin within a day or two, he said. The preparations will include arrangements at designated locations for devotees to perform the festival’s rituals.
Three artificial ponds are planned under the Patna City circle: at Mangal Talab in Ward 66, Karmalichak in Ward 68 and Marufganj in Ward 69.
26 Ghats To Be Prepared Under Azimabad Circle
Bhushan Kumar, assistant engineer in the corporation’s Azimabad circle, said 26 Ganga ghats between Pathari Ghat and Keshav Rai Ghat would be prepared for Chhath Puja.
Soil is already being spread over muddy sections at Adarsh Ghat and other locations to improve the riverbank for devotees.
The remaining two artificial ponds are planned at Ranipur Paijawa in Ward 56 and Mehandiganj in Ward 61. According to the report, these ponds are intended to make it easier for devotees to offer arghya in areas located farther from the Ganga.
The preparations across the two municipal circles are aimed at providing devotees with access to designated sites for Chhath rituals, including alternatives for those who may find it difficult to reach the river ghats.
