Patna: After a brief respite, air quality in Bihar has deteriorated, with Patna City emerging as the most polluted area on Sunday. The city recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 180, higher than other parts of the capital.
In comparison, Danapur and Gandhi Maidan registered an AQI of 112, Rajvanshinagar 90, and Samanpura 104. Experts noted that on Saturday, air pollution had remained below the “poor” category across the state, offering residents a short-lived relief.
Elsewhere, dust levels surged in Araria, pushing its AQI into the poor category at 210. Overall, of the 17 cities monitored in Bihar, one city fell into the poor category, 11 were moderate, and five were satisfactory. No city reported good air quality.
Patna’s average AQI for Sunday stood at 116, placing it in the moderate category. Environmental specialists attributed the temporary improvement in some areas to westerly winds dispersing pollutants.
