Patna: Patna Civil Court was forced to suspend proceedings on Thursday morning after receiving a fresh bomb threat via email, prompting a search operation and heightened security across the premises.
Police evacuated the court complex as a precaution and began a thorough inspection to ensure safety before resuming work. Town DSP Rajesh Ranjan said the premises were being searched and that court proceedings would resume in the afternoon once security checks were completed.
The threat marks the seventh such warning received by the court in recent weeks, sparking frustration among members of the legal fraternity. Lawyers expressed anger over the repeated disruptions and questioned the adequacy of preventive measures.
On Wednesday, similar email threats were sent to civil courts in Patna, Danapur and Kishanganj. One of the emails claimed that five bombs would explode in the court premises at 1pm. Authorities sealed off the buildings and restricted entry while carrying out checks, though no explosives were found.
The repeated threats have disrupted several scheduled hearings, including a case involving Pappu Yadav, the MP from Purnia, who was due to appear in court. A hearing scheduled earlier this week was postponed following the evacuation.
Police have not disclosed details about the source of the emails but said investigations are under way to trace those responsible. Officials urged the public to remain calm and said security arrangements around court complexes had been strengthened.
The latest incident has renewed concerns about the impact of repeated security scares on judicial functioning in Bihar’s capital.
