Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation’s empowered standing committee has approved 93 development schemes, including three mega commercial complexes costing Rs 530.09 crore and the development of 15 vending zones, commercial complexes, community buildings and marriage halls at an estimated Rs 261.84 crore.
The decisions were taken during a meeting that lasted around 70 minutes. The proposals will now be placed before the municipal corporation council for final approval.
The meeting was chaired by Mayor Sita Sahu and attended by Deputy Mayor Reshmi Kumar, Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, members of the empowered standing committee and other civic officials.
Three Commercial Complexes To Cost Rs 530.09 Crore
Under the Bihar Urban Transformation Project, the committee approved the construction of three commercial complexes. The projects will receive financial assistance from the World Bank, according to the proposal.
The complexes are planned to provide facilities such as clothing stores, electronics shops, grocery outlets, food courts and entertainment spaces at a single location.
The projects are also expected to increase the municipal corporation’s revenue through commercial activities and shops.
The three proposed locations and estimated costs are Arya Kumar Road in Bankipore zone, where a complex will be developed on 1.20 acres at a cost of Rs 133.09 crore; near Khaitan Market in Bankipore zone, where a one-acre complex will cost around Rs 97 crore; and near the AN College water tank in Patliputra zone, where a three-acre complex has been proposed at a cost of Rs 300 crore.
Rs 261.84 Crore For Vending Zones And Civic Facilities
The corporation has also approved Rs 261.84 crore for 15 vending zones, commercial complexes, community buildings and marriage halls across its jurisdiction.
The facilities will be developed on municipal-owned and controlled sites, as well as spaces beneath bridges. The aim is to provide organised spaces for street vendors and reduce encroachment on roads and footpaths, while also creating additional revenue opportunities for the civic body.
The projects are proposed to be implemented through municipal bonds.
Vending zones will be developed at Machhli Bazaar in Ward 1, Anta Ghat in Ward 27, Beur Mor in Ward 11, Machhli Market Tempo Stand in Ward 34, Bahadurpur in Ward 43, NIT Mor in Ward 49, Danka in Ward 54, Gayghat in Ward 53 and near Sati Chowk in Ward 62.
Other approved facilities include parking and vending shops between Boring Road Chowk and Rajapur Bridge, a commercial complex near Rajapur Bridge, a hotel near Sheikhpura Mor in Ward 4, and a vending zone and marriage hall at Musallahpur Haat in Ward 50.
A marriage hall near Premchand Golambar in Ward 43 and a vending zone and community hall near Meena Bazaar in Ward 57 are also planned.
12 Robotic Rover Machines For Cleaning
The committee has approved the purchase of 12 robotic rover machines for work involving manholes, drains and cleaning operations.
The machines will be mounted on light motor vehicles. Their operation and maintenance arrangements will also be included in the project.
New Cleaning Agency To Be Selected For Four Years
The corporation has approved a fresh tender for selecting a cleaning agency for four years.
An earlier tender for selecting the agency had been cancelled. A new tender will now be issued.
The selected agency will undertake door-to-door waste collection from households and commercial establishments, segregation of waste at source and transportation to transfer stations or processing sites.
The agency will also be responsible for manual and mechanical road sweeping.
Pataliputra Festival Gets Approval
The committee has approved the organisation of the Pataliputra Festival to mark the 75th anniversary of the Patna Municipal Corporation.
The festival is expected to promote tourism, employment, handicrafts and local businesses. The proposal estimates an economic benefit of around Rs 325 crore to Rs 540 crore, while the estimated expenditure on the festival is Rs 20 crore to Rs 25 crore.
849 Schemes Under Parshad Ek Crore Yojana
The committee also approved 849 schemes under the Parshad Ek Crore Yojana 4.0.
Other decisions included pension-related arrangements for retired employees who have received both contributions to their provident fund, as well as extensions for the tenure of agencies currently working with the corporation.
Roads, Drains And Water Supply Also Included
Several infrastructure and civic service projects were also approved. These include road and drain construction and repair, laying and extension of water-supply pipelines and providing new connections, and installation of high-capacity borewells.
The committee also approved proposals for community buildings and road naming. A hall will be constructed above two temples in Ward 62, while community buildings will also be reconstructed at selected locations.
Toilets And Street Lighting To Be Upgraded
The plans include three submersible pumps for pink toilets, construction of new toilets and other sanitation-related works.
The corporation has also approved the installation of new street lights and automation of existing street lights, which is expected to improve monitoring and operation of the municipal lighting network.
In addition, chlorinators will be installed at 93 water-supply centres as part of the approved water-supply improvement measures.
Together, the approved projects cover commercial development, street vending infrastructure, sanitation, waste management, roads, water supply, lighting and community facilities, subject to final approval by the municipal corporation council.
