Patna: Patna Divisional Commissioner Chandrashekhar Singh and Inspector General of Police, Central Region, Jitendra Rana have asserted that there can be no compromise on law and order maintenance, directing officials to act swiftly and decisively against crime and illegal activities.

Addressing a meeting with district officers at the Commissioner’s office, they ordered immediate and strict action against the land mafia, sand mafia, and liquor mafia. Officials were asked to execute and monitor land dispute cases with highest priority and ensure continuous CCTV monitoring to curb crimes big and small.

Police presence around women’s colleges and educational institutions will be strengthened to instil fear among anti-social elements, while patrolling for morning walkers’ safety will continue. Officers were instructed to keep no-vending zones entirely vending-free and to register FIRs against repeat encroachers. Strict action was ordered against vehicles without number plates and those using black films.

Chandrashekhar said effective traffic management is essential on Bihar’s newly constructed world-class roads, directing punitive measures against overspeeding. Plans are underway to mark ten public places as no-vending zones, including Gandhi Maidan, City Center Mall, PNM Mall, Chitkohra Bridge, Station Road, JP Ganga Path, Sahdev Mahato Marg, Atal Path, areas near Visvesvaraya Bhavan, and Old Secretariat-Eco Park.

Focusing on JP Ganga Path, the Commissioner ordered strict enforcement to prevent vending from LCT Ghat to Sabhyata Dwar, where daily traffic jams due to illegal vendors challenge public convenience. Officers were told to keep the 300-metre parking stretch on the river side free from vendors and deploy dedicated patrolling teams to enforce this. Around 200 pre-fabricated shops will be constructed by Patna Smart City Limited on JP Ganga Path by July 31, with 500 shops allotted by August to facilitate organized vending.

The Commissioner highlighted the ongoing riverfront development project with parking, green belts, pathways, and vending zones from Digha to LCT Ghat, underlining that a 100-metre radius around Digha Rotary will remain a strict no-vending zone. He emphasised developing the southern end of JP Ganga Path into a green belt while ensuring zero vending there.

He added that under the Chief Minister’s Pragati Yatra announcement, the area from Digha to Sabhyata Dwar will be developed with a botanical garden, butterfly park, women’s market, walking and cycling tracks, holistic gardens, integrated park facilities, and plantation of 1 lakh trees, aiming to generate employment, enhance tourism, and protect the environment.

Officers were also directed to ensure smooth traffic and security along JP Ganga Path, operate the new multi-modal hub near Patna Junction efficiently, and maintain a 24×7 active administrative system to address public grievances with transparency and sensitivity. Chandrashekhar emphasised public satisfaction as the core outcome of administrative work.

On prohibition, Chandrashekhar directed frequent raids, arrests, and seizures, and strict legal action against those involved in illegal liquor trade. He called for mission-mode action to control crime, speedy investigation and trial of pending cases, and execution of non-bailable warrants.

Emphasising the need for strong coordination between administration, police, revenue, registration, mining, prohibition, and transport departments, Chandrashekhar said any laxity or negligence in public interest matters would not be tolerated. Officers were told to strengthen intelligence gathering against illegal mining and use drones and high-tech boats to curb it effectively.

“Public convenience, safety, and satisfaction are paramount,” Chandrashekhar said, adding that all officers must remain alert, responsive, and committed to upholding law and order across Patna division.

Patna: Forty parks in Patna are set to undergo major renovations to become models of water conservation and urban greenery under the Amrit 2.0 scheme. The Urban Development and Housing Department has selected these parks to not only enhance recreational spaces but also strengthen the city’s environmental infrastructure. Housing Board land in Kankarbagh and PRDA land in Sri Krishna Puri and Rajendra Nagar, along with Pataliputra Colony Park and other government lands, have been identified for this initiative. The plan includes constructing ponds within park premises for water storage and planting various species to improve biodiversity and air quality. The renovated parks will feature benches, swings for children, open gyms, fountains, and decorative lighting to ensure usability during evenings. Officials said the move aims to create accessible public spaces that also address water conservation needs as the city grapples with erratic rainfall and rising temperatures.

  • Nitish Kumar inspected the ongoing construction of the Patna–Bettiah expressway in Saran district, directing officials to speed up work. Reviewing the Bakarpur–Manikpur stretch, he emphasized timely completion of the greenfield project aimed at improving connectivity between Patna and Bettiah.

Officials informed that the first section of the expressway is progressing steadily and is targeted for completion by April 2027. Once finished, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Patna and Bettiah to around three hours, easing traffic pressure and enhancing regional accessibility.

Describing it as a major infrastructure push, Kumar said the project will strengthen links across north Bihar, including Vaishali, Saran, East Champaran and West Champaran. Supported by agencies like the National Highways Authority of India, the expressway is expected to boost economic growth and connectivity in the region.

  • A major boost to citizen services in Bihar as the Ministry of External Affairs inaugurates a new Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Ram Nagar, West Champaran. The centre, under the Regional Passport Office Patna, will make passport services more accessible for residents of remote and border areas who earlier had to travel long distances.

Inaugurated by Sunil Kumar, the facility will offer services like fresh applications, renewals and police clearance certificates through a collaboration with the Department of Posts. With this addition, Bihar now has 40 passport centres, strengthening last-mile connectivity and citizen-focused governance.

  • Sita Sahu has strongly backed the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, calling it a landmark step to transform women from voters into policymakers. Speaking at the Patna Municipal Corporation headquarters, she said the move would strengthen women’s role in governance and make decision-making more inclusive, while also thanking Narendra Modi for the initiative.

Sahu emphasized that greater participation of women in leadership positions leads to more focus on key issues like education, healthcare, sanitation, nutrition and safety. She highlighted that despite women forming a large share of India’s electorate, their representation in Parliament and state assemblies remains limited, and the new law aims to bridge this gap through reservation.

Echoing similar views, Reshmi Kumari called the Act a historic step toward empowerment. The event saw participation from women councillors across the city, marking strong local support for a reform aimed at reshaping governance and expanding women’s voice in policymaking.

  • Cyber fraud cases are rising rapidly in Patna, with scammers now targeting even highly educated individuals such as doctors, professors, businesspersons and students. Using psychological pressure and sophisticated tactics, these criminals are tricking victims into transferring large sums of money, showing that no one is completely safe from such digital threats.

According to cyber police data, nearly 200 people fall victim every month, with over 2,600 cases recorded in 2025. One of the most alarming methods is “digital arrest,” where fraudsters pose as officials from agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation or the police, threatening victims with fake legal action to extort money. Fake investment schemes and malicious mobile apps are also widely used.

A shocking case involved a retired professor from Patna University losing ₹3.07 crore, highlighting how dangerous and convincing these scams can be. Despite ongoing police action, these networks continue to expand, making awareness and caution the strongest defense.

  • A major boost to regional connectivity in Bihar is on the horizon as plans move ahead to develop airports in Bhagalpur, Motihari, Gopalganj and Chhapra. The initiative shifts focus beyond Patna, aiming to make air travel faster, easier and more accessible for people in smaller cities while supporting local economic growth.

A survey by the Airports Authority of India from April 15–18 will assess land, safety and infrastructure at these locations. The findings will determine whether flight operations can begin and what upgrades—especially runway extensions—are needed to accommodate aircraft like ATRs.

Linked to the UDAN Scheme, the project could bring affordable flights and reduce pressure on Patna airport. However, land acquisition remains a key hurdle, and the final decision now depends on the upcoming survey report.

  • The Supreme Court of India has refused to quash the FIR in the “land-for-jobs” case involving Lalu Prasad Yadav, giving a procedural boost to the Central Bureau of Investigation probe. The bench said there were no valid grounds to interfere, allowing the case to move forward in lower courts.

The case revolves around allegations that land was taken from candidates or their families in exchange for railway jobs during Yadav’s tenure as railway minister. Investigators claim these properties were transferred to close associates, while Yadav has denied all charges, calling them politically motivated.

With the court clearing the way, legal proceedings are set to intensify, drawing fresh political attention in Bihar. The focus now shifts to upcoming hearings and the direction of the ongoing investigation.
