Patna: Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, Commissioner of Patna Division and Chairperson of the Patient Welfare Committee at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), reiterated the state government’s top priority of ensuring strong, reliable, and quality public healthcare. Speaking during a committee meeting held at the L&T Construction office on the PMCH campus, he called on all stakeholders to remain alert and committed to the hospital’s smooth functioning and high standards of care.
Dr Chandrashekhar Singh reviewed the progress of the PMCH Redevelopment Project (Phase-1), inaugurated by the Chief Minister on 3 May 2025. The two newly opened hospital towers (I & II), with 1,117 beds, are already providing advanced patient services. The full project, scheduled for completion by March 2027, aims to transform PMCH into India’s largest and the world’s second-largest hospital with 5,462 beds.
Post-meeting, Dr Chandrashekhar Singh inspected wards, OPD units, and emergency areas, and personally gathered feedback from patients, attendants, and staff. He confirmed that services remain uninterrupted despite ongoing construction and directed the superintendent to ensure patients’ comfort at all times.
Key updates included the shift of 10 OPD departments—Medicine, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Gynaecology, Dermatology, ENT, Dentistry, PSM, and PMR to the new buildings. Emergency and IPD services are set to be operational in the new blocks by 30 June. The L&T project director was instructed to expedite pending work, and the superintendent was asked to prioritise activating emergency units in the new facilities.
To improve connectivity, the Commissioner announced that PMCH is being linked with JP Ganga Path and a new double-decker flyover from Ashok Rajpath. Three multilevel car parking (MLCP) structures under construction will further ease access for patients, families, and staff. The traffic DSP was instructed to enhance parking management near the hospital and ensure clear entry and exit routes for ambulances.
Dr Singh stated that patients are being admitted smoothly and that a clear referral policy must be followed between institutions for timely treatment. He stressed the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in delivering excellent patient care.
