Patna: Road infrastructure upgrades are under way across Patna as authorities seek to address persistent traffic congestion, with a major redesign planned at the Digha junction near JP Setu.
Officials said the radius of the roundabout at the end of the approach road to JP Setu will be expanded to improve traffic flow at one of the city’s busiest convergence points.
Key junction under pressure
The site connects multiple major routes, including Atal Path, JP Ganga Path, Patli Path and JP Setu, making it a critical traffic node linking Patna with Sonepur. The heavy volume of vehicles at this intersection has led to frequent congestion.
To address this, plans are in place to construct a redesigned rotary with improved capacity and layout.
New roads and expansion plans
Authorities are also planning to develop four new roads around the roundabout to streamline vehicle movement. Heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses will primarily use the six-lane JP Setu to ease pressure on other routes.
The proposed extension of the Digha-Sherpur stretch of Ganga Path is expected to originate from the same location, further strengthening connectivity.
In addition, the JP Ganga Path corridor is set to be expanded, with landscaping and beautification works planned for the surrounding area.
Boost to connectivity and tourism
Officials said the redevelopment is expected to improve urban mobility and enhance the area’s appeal, potentially increasing visitor footfall and boosting tourism.
