Patna: Patna District Magistrate Dr. Thiagarajan SM has confirmed that 48 dengue cases have been reported so far this year, adding to concerns about the persistence of hotspots despite a decline in overall cases compared with previous years.
According to official data, 8,493 cases were reported in 2023, while 2024 has seen 5,041 cases to date. Despite the drop, the same areas remain vulnerable, with the magistrate identifying waterlogging as the primary cause of the spread.
In response, municipal executive officers have been directed to prioritise drainage and ensure fogging operations are carried out effectively. The Additional Municipal Commissioner has been tasked with monitoring the chemical composition and duration of fogging efforts.
Authorities will also step up awareness campaigns, including through municipal vehicles, to ensure the public is informed about preventive measures.
On the healthcare front, the magistrate stressed the need for sufficient platelet concentrate in all blood banks. Of the 20 blood banks in the district, 14 are privately run and six are government-operated. All government facilities currently stock platelet concentrate, while only eight private banks have similar provisions.
