Patna: As part of its monsoon readiness drive, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) will jointly conduct a late-night mock drill at Boring Road Chauraha on Saturday. The operation, scheduled from 11pm to 2am, aims to assess the efficiency of drainage and sump house systems, as well as evaluate the performance of sanitation workers in real-time.

The drill will include checks on the cleaning of manholes, catchpits, inlets and outlets of sump houses across all municipal zones. Officials will inspect whether the city’s drainage systems are functioning effectively, following claims that drain cleaning has been completed ahead of the monsoon season.

The Municipal Commissioner and BUIDCO Managing Director have already carried out ground inspections, focusing on the quality of drain cleaning and addressing technical shortcomings. Inter-departmental coordination meetings have also taken place to ensure comprehensive preparation.

A key focus of the mock drill will be the removal and regulation of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Officials have been directed to confiscate any waste found on public roads and impose fines on responsible construction agencies. On Sunday, workers from every ward will continue inspections across the city to ensure compliance.

The exercise will also serve to test the response capability of 19 Quick Response Teams (QRTs), which are activated during rainfall to manage waterlogging. Each zone has been instructed to deploy additional water pumps and operators to support drainage, particularly in low-lying areas.

Authorities will monitor whether sanitation workers are present on the ground and if standard operating procedures are being followed. Officials stress that resources have been sufficiently allocated to manage potential monsoon disruptions.

Senior personnel, including executive officers from all zones, deputy city commissioners, engineers, city managers, sanitation officers and ward nodal officers, are expected to be on-site and in alert mode throughout the exercise.
