Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will launch a special cleanliness campaign across all city wards from October 25 to November 10 to maintain sanitation during Diwali and Chhath Puja.
Under the ‘Swachhta Sankalp’ campaign, the civic body will focus on garbage collection, road and drain cleaning, and maintaining cleanliness at public places. The initiative comes amid expectations of increased waste generation from households, shops and commercial establishments during the festive season.
The corporation will also step up monitoring at identified garbage dumping spots. With the help of local residents, officials will identify people dumping waste in the open. Households, shops and commercial establishments violating sanitation rules may face fines, while repeat offenders could face stricter action, including sealing of establishments.
Yellow and Red Spots, Overbridges to Be Cleaned Daily
The civic body will undertake special cleaning and regular washing of identified yellow spots and red spots across the city. Arrangements will also be made for daily washing of overbridges, both on the upper decks and underneath them.
According to the municipal administration, special cleaning drives will be conducted at locations where garbage frequently accumulates. These include vacant plots, areas around transformers, roadside stretches and other public places.
The corporation will also monitor these locations after cleaning to prevent fresh waste from accumulating. The objective is to keep major roads and public spaces clean throughout the festive period.
Garbage Collection Vehicles Must Complete Three Trips Daily
The Patna Municipal Corporation has also emphasised the need to strengthen waste transportation during the campaign. All garbage collection vehicles will be required to complete three trips every day to ensure timely collection and proper disposal of waste from all wards.
Vehicles that fail to complete the prescribed number of trips will be monitored. Payments to the agencies concerned may also be reduced in accordance with the applicable rules.
Residents Asked Not to Dump Waste in the Open
The civic body has appealed to residents, shopkeepers and commercial establishments to cooperate with the cleanliness campaign. People have been urged to dispose of garbage only at designated locations and avoid storing construction materials along roadsides.
The corporation has also asked residents and businesses to avoid using banned plastic products and cooperate with sanitation workers.
The municipal administration said public participation would be essential to maintaining cleanliness during Diwali and Chhath Puja. It added that collective efforts would help prevent waste accumulation at public places and improve sanitation across Patna during the festive season.
