Patna: A meeting of the Patient Welfare Committee at Guru Gobind Singh Sadar Hospital, Patna, was chaired by District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh. He emphasized that providing strong, reliable, and high-quality healthcare services to all is the top priority of the district administration. He instructed officials to ensure transparency, accountability, and financial discipline in hospital management. The DM directed that free medicines should always be available for patients, doctors and paramedical staff must be present on time as per the roster, and hospital cleanliness must be maintained. He also ordered that the hospital’s blood bank remain operational 24/7 and the Ayushman Bharat Pharmacy function at night.

Dr. Singh highlighted that under the government’s vision for a developed and self-reliant Bihar, the healthcare system must remain active, efficient, and responsible. He informed that during the year 2024-25, 1,79,357 patients were treated in the OPD, 9,928 were admitted for IPD services, and 1,00,790 pathology tests were conducted. Additionally, 1,300 normal deliveries and 166 C-sections were performed, along with 1,001 CT scans, 23,242 X-rays, and 10,707 ultrasounds. The DM instructed that all 343 essential medicines must be available in the hospital and that biomedical waste should be disposed of scientifically. Special attention was directed towards liquid waste management.

The DM praised the efficient operation of “Didi Ki Rasoi” by the Jeevika self-help groups, which provides free meals to patients. Hospital cleaning and laundry services are also managed through Jeevika, and regular supervision has been assigned to the district program manager. Construction of a Mother Shed near the Newborn Care Unit and a Patient-Attendant Waiting Shed near the OPD is expected to be completed this month. The Civil Surgeon has been instructed to ensure that the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) has all necessary facilities and that oxygen supply remains uninterrupted.

The DM instructed that encroachment removal near the hospital be conducted regularly under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Officer, Patna City. He also directed the installation of proper signage for patient and visitor guidance and ensuring that CCTV surveillance remains operational. The new hospital building is expected to be completed within two months, further enhancing patient facilities. Officials were reminded that public healthcare services are the backbone of the system and must be made accessible, particularly to underprivileged communities.

The meeting included discussions on hospital management, emergency services, availability of medicines and ambulances, surgeries, diagnostics, and hygiene. Civil Surgeon Dr. Avinash Kumar Singh, District Program Manager Dr. VK Singh, Deputy General Manager of BMSICL, and other committee members participated. The hospital superintendent assured that the entire system is committed to patient welfare and that all necessary medical services are being provided. The DM reiterated that maximizing patient satisfaction and ensuring a patient-friendly environment are the responsibilities of all healthcare professionals.
