Patna: The District Magistrate of Patna, Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, has directed municipal officials to take urgent action to curb road dust and air pollution caused by construction activities. The Executive Officer of Danapur Nizamat Municipal Council was instructed to implement effective pollution control measures, while municipal officials in Danapur Nizamat, Phulwari Sharif, Khagaul, and Sampatchak were ordered to procure mechanical road sweepers to remove dust from roads and improve air quality.
During a review meeting, the Executive Engineer of the Road Construction Department reported that paver blocks are being installed along the city’s main roads using funds provided by the Patna Municipal Corporation. This initiative aims to prevent dust particles from dispersing into the air due to vehicle movement. The District Magistrate directed the Executive Engineer to identify more sites for similar work and submit a list to the District Forest Officer to facilitate tree plantation along roadsides.
Fly Ash Management and Traffic Reforms
Addressing traffic congestion, the Traffic Department informed that a new system has been implemented at Mithapur bypass auto stand, ensuring that auto rickshaws move in an orderly manner. Dr Singh instructed officials to extend this system to other auto stands across the city to improve traffic flow.
On the issue of fly ash pollution, the District Magistrate ordered strict regulation of its transportation. He directed officials to coordinate with NTPC to prevent fly ash spillage on roads and ensure that effective containment measures are in place.
Action Against Stubble Burning and Construction Dust
To combat stubble burning, Dr Singh ordered the Agriculture Officer to take strict action against farmers setting fire to crop residue, a practice that significantly contributes to air pollution.
All municipal bodies and government departments were instructed to identify suitable sites for tree plantations and submit them to the District Forest Officer at the earliest, ensuring that afforestation efforts can be implemented during the upcoming monsoon season.
Additionally, municipal bodies were directed to impose fines on violations related to air pollution caused by construction and demolition activities.
