Patna: Residents of Patna are set to see improved access to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) as construction begins on a dedicated ramp linking the city’s double-decker flyover to the hospital’s upcoming multi-level car park. Officials say the project, expected to be completed by April, will allow vehicles to enter the hospital premises directly from the flyover, reducing bottlenecks along Ashok Rajpath.
The ramp under construction is the first of three planned connections between the flyover and the hospital complex. Two ramps will link to the upper deck of the structure, while another will connect to the lower level. Authorities say the initiative is part of a broader effort to streamline traffic flow around one of Bihar’s busiest public healthcare institutions.
The first ramp is being built beside Anjuman Islamia Hall on Ashok Rajpath. The proposed link will bridge a distance of approximately 75 to 100 metres between the flyover and the multi-level parking facility. Engineers plan to erect three supporting pillars to connect the ramp seamlessly to the new parking structure, which is currently under development within the hospital campus.
The push to accelerate the project gained momentum following directions from divisional commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar during a meeting of the PMCH Patient Welfare Committee. He instructed officials to fast-track construction to ensure timely completion and ease mounting traffic pressures in the area.
Two additional access points are planned one on either side of Anjuman Islamia Hall and another near Gate No. 2 of the hospital. Work at the third location has been delayed due to the presence of an old building that must be demolished before construction can proceed. The demolition has been assigned to Larsen & Toubro.
Once operational, the new connectivity is expected to significantly improve vehicular movement around PMCH, offering patients and visitors faster, more direct access to one of Bihar’s largest government hospitals.
