Patna: The Bihar capital is set to take a major step towards modernising its public transport network with the planned introduction of 200 electric buses under the Centre’s PM e-Bus Sewa scheme.
Preparations for the rollout were reviewed at a meeting chaired by the District Magistrate Dr. Thiyagrajan SM on Friday. Representatives from the Transport Department, Road Construction Department, district administration and bus operators’ associations attended the meeting.
Officials discussed the implementation of the scheme and reviewed arrangements required for the commencement of bus services.
The District Magistrate said the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme is designed to strengthen sustainable and modern urban transport systems while providing residents with improved and more convenient public transportation options.
Services To Operate From ISBT Bairiya
According to officials, all 200 electric buses will operate from the Pataliputra Bus Terminal at Bairiya (ISBT), which will serve as the primary hub for the new fleet.
The administration expects the initiative to significantly improve connectivity within Patna and neighbouring areas, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
Officials said arrangements related to operations, infrastructure and passenger facilities are currently being finalised.
The District Magistrate directed departments concerned to complete all preparations within the prescribed timeframe and stressed the importance of coordination among various agencies involved in the project.
The Sub-Divisional Officer (Patna Sadar), District Transport Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police were instructed to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.
Boost For Public Transport And Connectivity
Officials said the introduction of electric buses would strengthen Patna’s public transport network by providing cleaner, safer and more accessible travel options.
The administration expects the service to benefit lakhs of passengers while easing mobility challenges across the city.
The project is also expected to improve traffic management and enhance connectivity between key urban and suburban locations.
Focus On Green Mobility
Authorities highlighted the environmental benefits of the initiative, noting that electric buses will help reduce vehicular emissions and promote the adoption of green transport solutions.
The scheme is being viewed as an important component of Patna’s broader efforts towards sustainable urban development and environmental conservation.
During the review meeting, officials also discussed infrastructure requirements, passenger amenities and traffic management measures needed to support the operation of the electric bus fleet.
The administration said the project would contribute to creating a more efficient, environmentally friendly and future-ready public transport system for the capital.
