Patna: A 30-year-old man was shot dead following an argument during a late-night gathering in the Fatuha police station area of Patna, police said. The victim, identified as Naveen Kumar of Dariyapur Nayatola, succumbed to his injuries during treatment after being referred to a higher medical facility.
The incident took place around 1 am near a mosque close to a Trend showroom at Factory Mor in the Raipura area, triggering panic among local residents. Police have launched an investigation and are conducting raids to trace those involved.
Argument Escalated Into Shooting
According to preliminary information from police and local residents, Naveen Kumar was sitting with a group of acquaintances late on Wednesday night. Food and beverages were reportedly found at the spot, indicating the group had gathered together.
During the gathering, an argument broke out over an issue that has not yet been disclosed. Police said the altercation escalated, and one individual allegedly opened fire at close range, hitting Naveen in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Victim Died During Treatment
Those present rushed the injured Naveen Kumar to Fatuha Sub-divisional Hospital, where doctors provided initial treatment before referring him to Patna because of the severity of his injuries.
His family later shifted him to Paras Hospital, where he died during treatment despite medical efforts to save him.
Police Examining CCTV and Digital Evidence
After receiving information about the shooting, the Fatuha police reached the scene, secured the area and began collecting evidence.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby establishments and questioning eyewitnesses and local residents. Police are also analysing mobile call records, technical data and other digital evidence as part of the investigation.
Multiple Angles Under Investigation
Police said the exact motive behind the killing has not yet been established.
While preliminary findings suggest the shooting followed a dispute during the gathering, investigators are also examining other possibilities, including previous enmity, criminal rivalry and whether the incident was premeditated.
Officials are working to identify everyone who was present with Naveen Kumar at the time of the incident and determine whether the alleged shooter was part of the group or an outsider.
Family Seeks Swift Arrest
The victim’s family has demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and strict legal action.
Local residents have expressed concern over the incident, saying the late-night shooting has raised questions about law and order in the area.
Police said raids are continuing and expressed confidence that the accused would be identified and arrested based on technical evidence and other material collected during the investigation. No arrests had been reported at the time of publication.
