Patna: Patna’s Dakbungalow Chowk is preparing for a grand festive spectacle this Durga Puja, with an 80-foot pandal inspired by the famous Khajuraho temples of Madhya Pradesh set to become a major attraction.
The temple-themed structure will be around 80 feet high and 55 feet wide, with elaborate decoration, special lighting and 12 LED gates planned around the venue.
The pandal is being constructed by Barik Decorators of Contai, West Bengal, while its design has been prepared by Ritesh Chatterjee of Kolkata Art College.
Khajuraho Theme To Define The Pandal
The pandal will recreate the architectural character of a Khajuraho temple, giving the Durga Puja celebrations a distinctive temple-inspired setting.
The organisers are paying special attention to the design and decoration to create a grand visual experience for visitors.
The committee spent around Rs 25 lakh on last year’s Puja celebrations, according to its president Sanjeev Prasad Tony.
12 LED Gates To Light Up Dakbungalow
The festive display will extend beyond the main pandal.
Twelve LED gates are being constructed along the stretch between Dakbungalow Chowk and Kotwali. Each gate will be approximately 57 feet high and 35 feet wide.
The lighting work has been assigned to Bapan Electronics of Chandannagar, West Bengal, known for its lighting installations.
The organisers said Chandannagar-themed lighting will be used around the pandal and surrounding areas to enhance the festive atmosphere.
Durga Puja Tradition At Dakbungalow Since 1964
The Durga Puja tradition near Dakbungalow Chowk dates back to 1964.
The celebrations are now organised under the Navayuvak Sangh Durga Puja Samiti Trust, Dakbungalow Road.
Committee president Sanjeev Prasad Tony has been associated with organising the Puja since 1980.
Kolkata Sculptor To Create The Idols
The idols of Goddess Durga and the other deities will be created by Kolkata-based sculptor Jagannath Pal.
A large portion of the decorative material for the idols is being brought from Bongaon in West Bengal, a region near the Bangladesh border.

The Puja committee is headed by Sanjeev Prasad Tony, with Rajan Kumar Yadav as vice-president and Dr Purushottam Mishra as general secretary.
Amit Kumar Barua is the treasurer, while Sonu Yadav and Ritish Kumar are serving as secretaries. Rajesh Paswan and Amit Kumar Sinha are deputy secretaries, while Ashish Jaideva is the youth president.
