Patna: Patna’s district administration has announced a ban on running, exercise, and other physical fitness activities at Gandhi Maidan, one of the city’s most historic and culturally significant open spaces. The order, which takes effect immediately, will allow the ground to be used only for cultural programmes, sightseeing, national events, and government functions.
Officials said the move comes in response to the increasing wear and tear caused by candidates preparing for competitive examinations. “The large number of people training here has damaged the greenery, tracks, pathways, and other structures, while also inconveniencing ordinary citizens, children, the elderly, and tourists,” a statement from the administration said.
The district administration emphasised that Gandhi Maidan is a site of historical and public importance and must be preserved for its cultural and social value. Individuals seeking to train for physical tests will now be required to use alternative grounds designated by authorities.
Strict enforcement measures have been outlined. Magistrates, police personnel, and municipal teams will monitor the area, with action to be taken against violators in accordance with the law.
