Patna: A young woman from Gaya preparing for competitive exams in Patna was allegedly gang-raped on Sunday after being taken to a hotel by her boyfriend and three of his friends. Police arrested all four accused within 24 hours and confirmed details of the case on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the Fatuha bypass area. According to police, the main accused — identified as Chunnu Kumar, 29 — had called the victim to Patna’s Sheetla Mandir on the pretext of resolving a dispute between them. The two had reportedly been in a relationship for nearly six years, having first connected on Instagram before moving to regular phone conversations.
However, the victim had recently distanced herself, sensing what she described as “changing behaviour” in Chunnu. He allegedly shared the situation with his friend Sudhanshu Kumar (19), who police say is associated with the local sand mafia and arrived that evening in a Thar SUV. Two other friends — Aman Kumar (26) and Roshan Kumar (25) — accompanied them.
Taken from temple to hotel
When the young woman reached the temple, the four men allegedly forced her into the vehicle and drove her to a hotel in Fatuha, around 15km away. Inside one of the rooms, police say Chunnu and Sudhanshu sexually assaulted her while the other two kept guard outside.
After the assault, the men fled the hotel, leaving the woman behind. She managed to reach the local police station on her own and lodged a complaint.
Hotel room sealed, forensic team deployed
Following the FIR, police conducted raids and arrested the four suspects one by one. The accused belong to different localities — Chunnu from Panchrupiya, Sudhanshu from Didarganj, Roshan from Nadi PS area, and Aman from Fatuha.
Authorities have since sealed the hotel room where the assault took place, while an FSL team has begun collecting forensic evidence. Officers are also examining whether the hotel violated mandatory register-entry rules for guests.
‘Investigation is ongoing’
Sub-divisional officer Awadhesh Kumar confirmed the arrests and said a detailed investigation is under way, particularly into the role of each accused and the circumstances that enabled the crime.
