Patna: The Patna administration has prohibited boat operations on the Ganga on October 20, 2026, in view of Vijayadashami and the subsequent immersion of Durga idols.
The order was issued by Patna Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Kritika Mishra to ensure the safety of devotees and maintain law and order during the festivities.
According to the order, the restriction will remain in force on October 20 until the completion of the idol immersion process.
Large Crowds Expected at Ganga Ghats
Vijayadashami falls on October 20, after which Durga Puja idols will be immersed in the river.
A large number of devotees are expected to visit the Ganga ghats during the occasion. The administration anticipates that some people may attempt to travel between the riverbanks using private boats.
The temporary ban has been imposed to prevent unsafe movement on the river during the period of heavy footfall.
Overloading Raises Risk of Accidents
The administration has expressed concern that boat operators may carry more passengers than their vessels can safely accommodate during the festival rush.
Overloading can increase the risk of accidents, particularly when large numbers of people gather near the river for idol immersion and subsequent rituals.
The restriction is intended to reduce these risks and help officials maintain safety and order along the riverfront.
Ban to Continue Until Idol Immersion Ends
The order specifies that the suspension of boat operations will continue from October 20 until the immersion process is completed.
Devotees and boat operators are expected to comply with the administration’s directions during the restriction period.
The measure is aimed at preventing potential accidents on the Ganga and ensuring the safe conduct of Vijayadashami celebrations in Patna.
