Patna: The civic body in Patna has stepped up efforts to regulate street vending along JP Ganga Path, Patna, with plans to relocate hawkers to a designated vending zone near the Digha roundabout.
The move follows the issuance of a no-objection certificate by the Danapur Circle Office, clearing the way for the development of the new site beneath the Digha roundabout.
Vendors To Be Shifted To New Site
Officials said vendors currently operating along the riverfront will be relocated to a vacant plot of around 55,000 sq ft between Atal Path and a nearby railway crossing.
Many vendors have been facing challenges such as dust exposure and low earnings at their present locations along the ghats.
Rs 2.96 Crore Development Plan
The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has allocated Rs 2.96 crore for developing the vending zone, which will include paving works and high-mast lighting.
Authorities aim to accommodate around 250 vendors at the site by May 15, with an additional Rs 59 lakh earmarked for initial arrangements.

Plans For Amenities And Expansion
In the second phase, the civic body plans to add infrastructure such as a foot overbridge, parking facilities, toilets and drinking water.
There are also proposals to develop a park and an entertainment zone in the area to enhance its utility and appeal.
Smart Shops Underway
Separately, under the Smart City project, 50 pre-fabricated shops are set to be installed along the Ganga Path by August at an estimated cost of Rs 7.18 crore.
The plan includes 45 smaller units and five larger shops, arranged in clusters and equipped with modern amenities such as electricity, drainage, plumbing and LED lighting.
Officials said maintenance of these shops will be handled by the designated agency for three years.
Aim To Decongest Riverfront
Authorities said the initiative is intended to reduce congestion along the busy riverfront stretch while providing vendors with a more organised and sustainable working environment.
