Khagaria/Patna: The growing trend of police personnel creating social media ‘Reels’ has once again landed the Bihar Police in controversy, after a sub-inspector in Khagaria district was found posting videos in uniform in apparent violation of departmental orders.
Nisha Kumari, a sub-inspector posted at Parbatta police station, is facing disciplinary action after videos of her posing to Bollywood songs while in uniform circulated widely online. The clips, originally shared on Instagram, quickly went viral, drawing attention from senior officers and prompting swift action.
The incident comes despite a recent written directive from Bihar Police headquarters explicitly prohibiting personnel from posting videos, photographs or ‘Reels’ on social media while on duty or in uniform. The order was issued to preserve the force’s professional image and reinforce discipline within the ranks.
Officials said Kumari’s actions amounted to a clear breach of these instructions. After the videos gained traction online, she reportedly deleted them from her account, but not before copies and screenshots had already reached senior officials.
Sakshi Kumari, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Gogri, has issued a show-cause notice to the officer, seeking an explanation. Describing the matter as one of indiscipline, she said the uniform carried “dignity” that must be upheld at all times.
“The police uniform represents authority and responsibility. Any conduct that undermines its dignity cannot be tolerated,” the SDPO said, adding that a strict warning had already been issued.
A detailed inquiry report will be submitted to the district superintendent of police upon his return, officials said. Based on the findings, departmental proceedings could follow, with suspension or other penalties under consideration
