
Patna : The Khelo India Youth Games 2025 will officially open on May 4 at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, with over 4,000 athletes, coaches, technical officials, and staff set to take part across 11 sporting disciplines. The event marks a significant moment for the capital of Bihar, which will host competitions at six venues citywide.
The inaugural ceremony, expected to be attended by Bihar’s Chief Minister and other dignitaries, has prompted sweeping traffic restrictions in central Patna. Authorities have announced road closures from 12 noon to 9pm around the Patliputra Sports Complex, Kankarbagh. While emergency vehicles, NEET UG candidates, and pedestrians will be permitted, all other traffic will be diverted to alternate routes.
Citywide Sporting Venues
The Games will feature events at the following locations:
- Patliputra Sports Complex: Athletics, volleyball, rugby, and basketball
- Patel Sports Complex, Digha: Boxing
- IAS Bhawan, near Patna Airport: Tennis
- Gyan Bhawan, Gandhi Maidan: Judo and wrestling
- JP Ganga Path: Road cycling
- Mithilesh Stadium, Phulwarisharif: Sepak takraw
Festivities began early, with torch relays and public events held on May 1-2 across the city.
Traffic Disruptions and Road Closures
Key roads near the Patliputra Sports Complex will be closed in both directions during the inauguration:
- PC Colony Road: From Medanta Hospital Gate No. 4 to Hotel Wellfood Inn
- Raghunandan Marg: From Gayatri Mandir to Virasat Bhawan
- JP Fighter Path: From Mediversal Hospital to Well Visar Wellness Centre
- Gayatri Temple Path: From Gayatri Mandir to Madhya Gramin Bank
- Ganga Devi Road: From Hotel Secret Swarna to Ganga Devi Women’s College
- Kankarbagh Road: From Shivaji Golambar to Malahi Pakadi Mor; limited access southbound only
- Heavy vehicles will be barred from Rajendra Nagar to Shalimar Sweets entirely.

- To manage the influx of attendees, parking zones have been designated across Mithapur:
- Chanakya National University: For attendees arriving via Parsa Bazaar
- Medanta Basement: For media, athletes, and performers
- College of Commerce: For two-wheelers from Kanti Factory Road and Chandan Automobile
- Aryabhatta Knowledge University: For arrivals from Anisabad
- National Institute of Fashion Technology: For attendees from Patna GPO
- Maulana Mazharul Haq University: For those from Beur
- Chandragupta Maurya Institute of Management: For Karbighhia route attendees
Officials advise residents and visitors to plan accordingly and expect delays in affected zones.
