Patna: A man transporting gold was allegedly robbed in Patna on Friday after a group of assailants posing as customs officials intercepted his vehicle near the Khagaul overbridge, police said.
The incident occurred around 1pm when the victim, identified as Mahesh, was travelling in an auto-rickshaw after arriving at Danapur station by train from Rajkot in Gujarat. He was en route to Bakarganj in Patna.
According to police, four men travelling in a Bolero vehicle stopped the auto-rickshaw near the overbridge and claimed they needed to inspect the gold he was carrying. The suspects then forcibly snatched the bag containing the valuables and fled the scene.
Officials said the accused had identified themselves as officials before carrying out the robbery.
Following the incident, Khagaul police launched an investigation and later recovered the Bolero vehicle in an abandoned condition from the AIIMS–Naubatpur road.
Station House Officer Ranjan Kumar said CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being analysed to identify and trace the suspects.
Police added that the exact quantity of gold stolen will be confirmed once the owner of the consignment, identified as Sushil, arrives and provides details.
Further investigation is underway.
