Patna: The chief justice of the Patna high court, Sangam Kumar Sahoo, on Friday inaugurated a new e-filing centre on the court premises, marking what officials described as a significant step towards modernising the state’s judicial system.
Speaking at the event, Justice Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said the e-filing centre would prove to be a milestone in strengthening technological services within the judiciary. The initiative, he said, would enhance transparency and speed up various filing processes.
Under the new system, cases will be filed through computerised and digitised platforms, offering greater convenience to advocates and court staff. Chief Justice Sahu said the judiciary must evolve in step with changing times and embrace technological reform.
He noted that he had previously promoted a paperless court system in Odisha, where his court had been made fully paperless. Other courts there are being transitioned to paperless functioning in a phased manner.
In Bihar, the immediate goal is to ensure that at least one magistrate court and one special court in every district become paperless by March 2026.
Judges, officials and members of the bar, including the state’s advocate general, PK Shahi, attended the inauguration. Shahi said digital filing would help expedite the disposal of pending cases and significantly improve court efficiency.
