Patna: Major hospitals in Patna have reported a rise in patients with fever, typhoid and viral infection symptoms following recent rainfall and changes in weather conditions.
More than 300 typhoid cases were reportedly confirmed across PMCH, IGIMS, NMCH, AIIMS Patna and New Gardiner Road Hospital over the past week.
The reported figures include 98 cases at PMCH, 92 at IGIMS, 45 at NMCH, 58 at AIIMS Patna and seven at New Gardiner Road Hospital.
Hospital sources said the number of typhoid patients had been lower previously but has increased in recent days.
Fever And Viral Infection Symptoms
Patients arriving at hospitals are reportedly presenting with high fever, cough, weakness, dizziness, sore throat, dry cough and joint pain.
Doctors are conducting tests based on symptoms to determine whether patients have typhoid, viral infections or other illnesses.
Hospitals are also testing patients with symptoms associated with dengue and influenza-like illnesses.
Rain And Waterlogging Raise Concerns
Recent rainfall has caused waterlogging in several parts of Patna, with residents also reporting increased mosquito activity.
Areas including Kankarbagh, Buddha Colony, Rajiv Nagar, Boring Road, Gardanibagh, Danapur, Mahendru and Nepali Nagar have been reported to face waterlogging-related problems.
Residents have raised concerns about the frequency of fogging and anti-larval measures in some areas.
Stagnant water and inadequate drainage can create conditions favourable for mosquito breeding, raising concerns about mosquito-borne diseases.
Samples Sent For Further Testing
Hospitals are also examining patients showing symptoms that could be associated with swine flu and other viral infections.
Samples collected from hospitals are being sent to the Regional Medical Research Institute (RMRI) at Agamkuan in Patna for further testing, according to the report.
Patients are being provided with preliminary testing and medicines based on their symptoms and medical assessment.
Medical Evaluation Advised For Persistent Symptoms
Doctors have reported an increase in patients presenting with typhoid and viral fever symptoms in recent days.
People experiencing persistent fever, cough, body pain or other symptoms have been advised to seek medical evaluation.
The increase in cases comes as several parts of Patna continue to deal with rainfall and waterlogging, with hospitals simultaneously monitoring patients for typhoid, viral infections, dengue and influenza-like illnesses.
