Patna: A hotel employee has been arrested in Patna after allegedly entering a room occupied by a young woman and her father and molesting her during the late hours of Saturday night, police said.
The incident took place at a hotel in the Rupaspur area of the city, where the victim and her father had checked in after arriving from Begusarai for a polytechnic examination.
According to police, an FIR has been registered at Rupaspur Police Station, and the accused has been taken into custody.
Father Says Hotel Staff Entered Room at Night
The victim’s father told police that he and his daughter had booked a room at the hotel for Rs 1,000 and were staying in Room No 103.
According to his statement:
- The family checked into the hotel around 11pm after the examination
- The room had not been locked from inside
- Around 12:48am, a hotel staff member allegedly entered the room in an intoxicated condition
The father alleged that he woke up to find the accused holding his daughter’s hand.
He said he confronted the man and questioned how he had entered the room.
The accused allegedly responded by saying he had been ringing the bell and then began asking questions about the young woman.
Police Called to Hotel
After the incident, the victim’s father informed his nephew, who was staying in another room nearby.
The nephew then contacted Dial 112, following which a police team reached the hotel.
Police conducted a search operation inside the premises and inspected several rooms.
Eight People Detained During Raid
During the inspection, officers allegedly found:
- Four young women
- Four young men
consuming alcohol inside hotel rooms.
Police detained all eight individuals and took them to the police station for questioning.
Officials said:
- Food and liquor bottles were found inside rooms
- Belongings were scattered
- Some objectionable materials were also recovered
The detained individuals are currently being interrogated.
Hotel Manager Allegedly Fled
According to police, the hotel manager fled from the premises shortly after officers arrived.
Authorities said the hotel owner would also be questioned as part of the investigation.
City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said one of the girls staying at the hotel had come to Patna to appear for a polytechnic examination.
He confirmed that an FIR had been lodged regarding the molestation allegation.
Accused Arrested, Search Underway for Others
Police identified the arrested accused as Satyendra Kumar, 31.
Officials said:
- Two additional accused persons have been named in the case
- Raids are underway to arrest them
- Further action will follow after completion of interrogation and investigation
The incident has raised fresh questions regarding hotel security and safety standards in Patna, particularly for women travellers and examination candidates staying in budget accommodations.
