Patna: Patna marked Independence Day with a colourful event on Ganga Path on Thursday, where hundreds of students carried a 79-metre-long national flag. Organised by Radio City, the programme saw children from 14 schools take part in a symbolic Dandi March and present tableaux of India’s freedom struggle.
Students portrayed leaders like Rani Lakshmibai, Babu Kunwar Singh, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajguru, Sukhdev and Mahatma Gandhi. A special display honoured the seven martyrs of Patna. Dr Sujata Mukherjee, Director of Geetanjali Patho Lab, led an oath to promote cervical vaccination and urged everyone to work towards making India a developed nation by 2027.
Students of ISM Patna also performed a street play with a social message. The chief guest, Abhishek Anand, Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau, honoured the participants. Radio City’s Dr Subhash Krishna and Rakesh Tiwari welcomed the guests and praised the students’ efforts.
Different schools performed different historic scenes — B.D. Public School and others honoured Patna’s martyrs, while Patna Central School and its group showcased Babu Kunwar Singh’s rebellion. The International Scholars School and others recreated Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March, making the celebration a mix of patriotism and inspiration.
