Patna: A new indoor stadium is being constructed at the Patliputra Sports Complex to strengthen Bihar’s sports infrastructure, with the project estimated to cost Rs 21.20 crore.

The facility, known as Indoor Stadium-2, will cover about 30,864 square feet, including a sports floor of around 25,000 square feet. Construction is targeted for completion by March 2027.

Facilities For Multiple Sports

The stadium is being designed to support training and competitions in disciplines including kabaddi, basketball, boxing, volleyball, sepak takraw, wrestling, gymnastics and yoga.

Sports minister Shreyasi Singh said providing modern training infrastructure for athletes is a priority for the state government. She said the facility is intended to help athletes prepare for national and international competitions.

Plans are also being developed with major upcoming sporting events, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the proposed 2030 Commonwealth Games, in focus.

Retractable Seating For More Than 1,000

The stadium will have a retractable seating system with capacity for more than 1,000 spectators. The seating can be extended or retracted depending on the requirements of different sporting events.

The arrangement is intended to allow greater flexibility in the use of the sports floor while providing dedicated seating for spectators during competitions.

Separate Dormitories For Athletes

The complex will include separate 40-bed dormitories for male and female athletes. The accommodation will be available during training camps and state- and national-level competitions.

The stadium will also include changing rooms, lockers, washrooms and dedicated warm-up areas. Separate facilities for male and female athletes are planned within the professional athlete zone.

Broadcasting And Accessibility

A dedicated broadcasting room will be built to support live coverage of national and international competitions. The facility is being designed to accommodate the technical requirements of future sporting events.

Safety and accessibility have also been incorporated into the design. Multiple emergency exits, wide corridors and ramps for persons with disabilities will be provided to support safe movement throughout the complex.

Green Construction Technology

The stadium is being constructed using prefabricated steel structures and PPG-insulated panels. A sustainable HVAC air-conditioning system designed to meet green building standards will also be installed.

The project is intended to provide Bihar’s athletes with a modern training and competition venue within the state while adding capacity for larger sporting events in Patna.
