Patna: Armed men looted jewellery worth about Rs 20 lakh from a shop in Patna on Sunday afternoon after assaulting the owner, according to police.
The incident took place in the Ramkrishna Nagar area, where a group of five to six men arrived on motorcycles and entered a jewellery store in Thana Colony. Police said the attackers were carrying pistols and threatened the shopkeeper, Dhananjay Kumar, before overpowering him.
When Kumar attempted to resist, he was beaten and injured, officers said. The assailants then took gold and silver items from the premises and fled the scene.
Police teams reached the area shortly after being alerted, cordoned off the surroundings and began an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being reviewed to identify those involved.
The robbery, carried out in broad daylight, has caused concern among local residents, many of whom gathered outside the shop after the incident. Police officials said efforts were under way to trace and arrest the suspects.
